Our December curriculum theme is “The Gift of Mystery”:
“As Unitarian Universalists, we proclaim that direct experiences of transcending mystery and wonder are a primary source of inspiration. These experiences open our hearts, renew our spirits, and transform our lives.” – Article II Amendment
During the month of December, children will have the opportunity to create gifts for the important people in their lives. Three different gift options will be available to create (I can’t say what they are, because what if they’re for you?) and will highlight the creativity and generosity of our group!
Classes this month will highlight the mysteries of our world, our everyday lives, and the Winter Solstice.
Our goal in RE is to create an experience of belonging, ease and meaning for each child. In order to achieve this goal, we are working toward greater inclusivity in the RE curriculum and space. Modifications for each session will include sensory stations, such as playdough, stickers, small toys, etc. for any of our children who may be having a difficult time staying still, and alternatively – a “Book Nook” aka “Quiet Zone,” is being constructed in the corner of the McPeak room for anyone who needs a quiet moment. Each modified activity will relate directly to the week’s theme, but provide multiple ways of experiencing it.
Please feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss any of these additions directly.
We are always looking for volunteers in RE! As you may have noticed, we’ve added a number of children to the program this year, which creates an even higher need for adult volunteers. Volunteering with RE means spending about 30-45 minutes with our group during the service. We have a snack, talk about our joys and concerns, participate in the scheduled activity, and often head outside if the weather is cooperating and time is available. Our littlest participants spend time playing in the nursery. We all have different gifts to share with the children and they’d love to spend time with new and interesting people!
If you are interested in volunteering this year, please reach out and we will get you on the calendar!
