"The Voice of the Natural World" After the service on April 28, enjoy a light lunch and the sounds of nature before going out to help nature!
What can we learn about the health of an ecosystem from listening to the sounds it makes? Children and Teens are welcome. ("Happy Feet" will be provided as an alternative for younger children in the Seeger Room UL303).
TEDGlobal: The Voice of the Natural World" - Bernie Krause has been recording wild soundscapes -- the wind in the trees, the chirping of birds, the subtle sounds of insect larvae -- for 45 years. In that time, he has seen many environments radically altered by humans, sometimes even by practices thought to be environmentally safe. A surprising look at what we can learn through nature's symphonies, from the grunting of a sea anemone to the sad calls of a beaver in mourning.

Protecting Our Environment - City Forest Clean-Up Walk April 22
|
|
THIS SUNDAY - Following the service on Earth Day, April 22, please join us for a clean-up walk in the Midland City Forest. We’ll meet 1:00 PM at the main MCF parking lot on Monroe Rd, 1/2 mile west of Eastman Rd. There isn’t a lot of trash, so a grocery bag will be plenty for collection of the odd piece of litter. But there is a lot of trail—8 miles of 2-track and 14 miles of single track—so, depending on turnout, we will divide and conquer what we can. If there are enough of us, including a few willing to move heavy stuff, there are a few old bridge sections left in the woods along the singletrack when newer bridges were installed, and I’d love to get these out. I’ll bring tractor and trailer and other tools to get this done if we have the people. Anybody who can walk more than a mile will enjoy this outing. Dress for the weather, bring a snack, a water bottle, sturdy shoes, and gloves. I’ll provide trail maps and grocery bags. RSVP to Jim Crissman at [email protected].

It’s time for our annual spring cleaning and meet-the-earth ritual of pulling weeds, removing brush, throwing away trash, cleaning up indoors, and making our UU Fellowship building and grounds look smashing.
Please plan to come and work alongside your fellow UUs on Saturday, May 5. We’ll start around 9 AM and work until we’re all tired and hungry, which is usually around 1pm. We have inside jobs (cleaning & organizing) and outside jobs, repairs and some simple improvements to do, and a great need for dirt-to-your-elbows weeding. Please bring yourselves, rakes, shovels, a dandelion digger, pruning shears, gloves, a hat, and anything else you think might be needed. This is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow UUs! Please contact Tim Wagner if you’d like to add something to the job list.

Thank You for Welcoming a "Guest at Your Table"
During the month of December, you collected money for the "Guest at Your Table" initiative. Guest at Your Table donations support the work of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, protecting and promoting basic human rights.
The Guest at Your Table theme — Small Change Is Big Change — celebrated the bravery, innovation, and reach of UUSC’s grassroots partners. UUSC currently partners with over 75 grassroots organizations on the front lines of critical human rights issues.
Small Change Is Big Change conveys the impact of donations to UUSC, responding to extraordinary challenges of today, addressing root causes of injustice, and building capacity to respond to future challenges.
UUFoM congregants donated a total of $907 for Guest at Your Table!

Ruth Ellis Center Donation
|
|
Thank you to everyone who donated blankets and scarves to the Ruth Ellis Center! Jacob Guettler made the last delivery of items on April 11. Over the past 6 months, we have made 3 deliveries to this shelter for homeless, LGBTQ youth. Your warmth as a congregation is being felt by the communities around us. It certainly has been felt and acknowledged by the staff at the center and the youth they support.

Hospitality Groups - Update
|
|
You've seen the faces, shaken the hands, and eaten the snacks. Our 2018 debut of Hospitality Groups is a success! Sure, there's a learning curve, but the intention behind this community-wide endeavor is now a reality. We are coming together with a group of specified members to serve our beloved UUFOM family - often in ways we've never served before. And with this cooperation, we are building friendships and reinforcing bonds in this spiritual home we share. In other words, we are actively participating in the strategic goals we made for ourselves. Updated Hospitality Group assignments, effective April 1, are posted on the Connection and Exploration bulletin board near the office and on the website. Don’t see your name and would like to be in a Hospitality Group? Contact Shannon Sonoras at [email protected] or 989-708-5348.

If you are interested in joining a group, watch for Covenant Group registration information soon.
A Covenant Group is a small relational group made up of six to twelve people who meet regularly on an ongoing basis for their own spiritual growth and for connection with each other and with the Fellowship. Covenant Group members share what going on in their lives and explore a topic of mutual interest, within a structured format and a covenant for their own group’s relationship and interaction.

If you haven’t made it to Convocation, consider going next February! It’s the biggest gathering of Pagans in Michigan, and it happens every February (just google “Convocation, Pagan, Michigan”). It’s a lot of fun to be around hundreds of other Pagans, with classes and activities to suit every interest. Plus, the vendor area has all kinds of really cool magical stuff (however you define that).
This year, Monica, Scott and I held a ritual (The Living Earth Devotional), which was very well attended and went great! We are humbled by the many good reviews. Here is what our altar looked like just before we started.
A big shout out to everyone who came and everyone who helped make it a success! This ritual connected us all to each other and to the rest of our Earth, and empowered each of us to make a difference in helping the health of our wider Earth. For me, I can think about being connected to the Earth, and I can talk about it, but it takes something like a group ritual to move me deeply, feeling these connections in a new, powerful way.
Blessed be-
