TABLE OF CONTENTS
THIS WEEKEND

Sunday Morning Service at 10:30am

December 2
“What I Believe In”  As Unitarian Universalists, we formulate our beliefs in terms of credo (“I believe”) not creed (“we believe”).  Our own stories are among our sacred texts, and we are responsible for developing our own beliefs in light of our experience and conscience.  Participants from our recent credo-building workshop will share their belief statements.  Facilitated by Rev. Connie Grant.

December Parents' Circle:  Third Annual Parents' Holiday Break

Saturday, December 1
12:00 – 4:00 pm
 Free Lunch & Childcare

Calling all parents and caregivers! We are once again holding a parents’ break on the first Saturday in December!  Come, get refreshed in preparation for the holidays (and maybe get some early shopping done)!  From 12:00 to 1:00pm, parents (and caregivers) will enjoy a catered adult lunch together at the Fellowship (while kids eat separately)!  Afterwards, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm, you will have the option of free childcare on-site while you go shopping or go on siesta with your partner or a friend or maybe see a movie!  Three hours will be entirely yours!

Childcare will be provided at the Fellowship and will include lunch and games.  We will have at least two adults supervising and plenty of teens assisting in making this as fun for the kids as for their parents.  Please sign up ASAP with Heather Cleland-Host or at the Fellowship, so we know how many providers to have on-site.

Youth Winter Pageant Rehearsals Begin!

Calling all children and volunteers! Time to sign up!

The Youth Group has chosen to tell the story of “A Single Shard” by Linda Sue Park for this year’s winter pageant.  “A Single Shard” is the story of a boy who wants to be a potter and who goes on a journey to deliver the vases of the master potter he serves to the king in order to win a royal commission to make vases for the king.  Children, youth, and volunteers are invited to sign up with Heather Cleland-Host,  [email protected].   The schedule for rehearsals and the service are as follows:

December 2     Holiday Stations (during Sunday Religious Education time)                                                                 Pageant Rehearsal 12:00pm - 2:00pm
December 9     Pageant Rehearsal (during service)
                         Pageant Rehearsal 12:00pm - 2:00pm
December 16   PAGEANT DAY!  9:00am arrival

Youth Group Fundraiser:  Saving Amazon Rain Forest

Bake sale and fun activities

December 16 after the service

The youth group invites you to celebrate after the winter pageant service.  The youth will be bringing food and activities for during the coffee hour, and they invite congregants to also bring holiday treats to share and take home.  Bring plates of snowflake cookies or elvish brownies or perhaps holiday bread.  (Plates should be disposable and covered with plastic as they will go home with others.  Ziplock bags of cookies or brownies also work).  The youth will be collecting donations toward helping protect the animals and ecosystem of the Amazon Rainforest.

Winter Break Sundays - Call for Volunteers!

The Lifespan Religious Education Team is looking for volunteers to lead activities for children on December 23 and December 30.  Craft and activities will be provided and all children will be in the same room for fun activities after story time in the service.  Nursery care will also be provided. Contact Heather Cleland-Host if you will be here over the holidays and are available to help.

Calling All Poets

Do you write poetry? How does your spirituality impact your work? How does the practice influence your spirituality?  If you write poetry that you would like to share and reflect on in a service featuring a potpourri of UUFoM's poets on December 30, please contact Sarah Nuss-Warren at [email protected] or Amy Rogers at [email protected]. If you have a favorite local poet who might like to share with us, please contact us, too. We are hoping to hear many different voices at this service.

LIVING OUR VALUES

Sharing Tree

Please wrap and return gifts to the Fellowship, with green tags attached, by Sunday, December 2.

The Sharing tree is up and red tags are still available! The red tags represent ongoing needs through gift cards and donations. They can be purchased on the online store. Red tag purchases made on cyber Monday will be matched! Thank you for your generosity!

Every year, the Sharing Tree program provides gifts to hundreds of Midlanders without resources or family to help them out during the Holidays.  This is a special boon to the handicapped, the elderly, and people who live in poverty all year 'round.

Toys for Tots Drop Off Location

US Marine Reserve Toys for Tots program collects new and unwrapped toys each year to distribute as Christmas gifts to children and youth ages 0-17 in the community.  Midland is hosting a Toys for Tots drive and the Fellowship is a drop off location.  Please bring in your NEW and UNWRAPPED gift in the Toys for Tots box located in the lobby area before December 10.  Toys for Tots prefers not to accept realistic looking weapons and gifts with food.  If donated, such items will not be distributed.

Distribution will be held on December 15 between 9:00am and 9:00pm at 1406 E. Pine Street, Midland.  There are no income requirements but you must be a resident of Midland County.   You will need your drivers license, proof of residency, and birth certificate(s) for all children and youth participating.

Contact Wendy at office@uufom if you have an questions!

Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network Donations

The Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network is a cooperative effort of area churches and other organizations to provide food and supplies to people in Midland County who have emergency needs and are living near or below the Federal poverty level income guidelines.  At UUFoM, we collect donations for the Food Pantry Network on an ongoing basis.  Bring your donations with you when you come to the Fellowship and place them in one of the bins in the UUFoM Donation Center outside the sanctuary, and we will transport them to the Food Pantry.

Empty Ink Cartridge Collection

The UUFOM can receive $1.00 each for recyclable empty ink cartridges. Not all cartridge types are eligible, but please bring to the Fellowship any empty cartridges you have and they will be turned in, with a credit then being issued to the UUFOM for eligible cartridges. Ineligible cartridges will be properly disposed of. This is an on-going collection effort that in the past was facilitated by RG Converse. Please bring in empty cartridges and deposit them in the labeled collection bin in the UUFoM Donation Center outside the sanctuary. If you are allowed to collect empty ink cartridges from your workplace this can greatly increase our return.
