NEWS OF THE WEEK

Pasty Sale

We need help in the kitchen on Saturday, February 1, to prepare pasties for the Pasty Sale on Sunday, February 2

Responsibilities include cutting vegetables, blending the filling mixture, making crust, assembling the pasties, timing the pasties in the ovens, wrapping finished pasties, doing dishes and cleaning the kitchen, among other jobs.  Six or more per shift will work out well. You can sign up here or on the sheet at the Fellowship.

In the past, this fundraiser has been successful in part because the ingredients and supplies have been donated.  Please have all dry ingredients to the Fellowship kitchen by Sunday, January 26, with the exception of the ground beef and pork.  The ground meat (FRESH – NOT FROZEN) should be in the Fellowship refrigerator by Saturday, February 1.  You can sign up here or on the sheet at the Fellowship.  Please fill in the date when you deliver items to the kitchen.

Click here to place your order or sign up in advance at the Fellowship to purchase traditional (beef and pork mix) or vegetarian (lentils with olive and sesame seed oil) pasties for $5 each!

Weather Alerts and Religious Education

Many thanks to Jan Shea and Patricia Calahan for helping run our spontaneous all-ages Religious Education class this past Sunday.  It was a small, fun class with students in kindergarten, elementary, and middle school.

We just had a very wintry weekend, and we will have more.  On such Sundays, if services are held, here are a few “advisories.”

  1. Volunteers, parents, and children, please only come if it is safe for you to do so.  If you cannot make it, we will miss you, but safety first and foremost
  2. Attendance by volunteers and children on weather alert days may be reduced. Programming may be modified in the following ways:
  • Classes may be consolidated, typically into an all-ages class.
  • Last minute volunteers from the congregants may be needed in order to hold class.

Classes may be replaced with childcare, or children may be welcomed to the service.Thank you again for supporting the Religious Education program. It is always an adventure, but sometimes literally so!

Religious Education and Nursery Volunteers Needed

We are scheduling volunteers for the new year..  We need volunteers to lead and/or assist elementary through middle school classes.  These classes are taught in month-long blocks.  We also need volunteers to help in the nursery.  Nursery volunteers may help on any number of Sundays that they are available.  In the event that Nursery Care is not held, Nursery volunteers will have the opportunity to assist other classes or return to service.

Click here to sign up for Nursery Care (4 and under)

Click here to to sign up for Lower and Upper Elementary Children’s Circles (Age 4 to Grade 6)

Click here to sign up for Crossing Paths (Grade 6 and up)

Blocks are listed by their first date only, and you will receive a reminder a week ahead of the block you are helping with. Choose your blocks or days, and the click the submit button at the bottom of the page.  If you have any difficulties signing up, please contact the Director of Lifespan Religious Education, Heather Cleland-Host

January 26
"The Final Threshold?" To the best of our knowledge, physical death is the final threshold of life. But many world religions suggest otherwise, that some form of spirit remains or continues on. Let's explore some eschatology together.  Led by Eric Severson, Minister.
